Phelps senior Jodie Grasse is one of a few seniors on the Phelps volleyball team this season. While Grasse has played other sports, volleyball has been her true passion since she’s found the game. When she’s not on the volleyball court, you can find Grasse on different teams and clubs throughout the school or in the theature during the school year. Find out which ones and more things about the Phelps senior:
Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“Sometimes my teammates and friends call me Jodes, other than that I have never really had nicknames.”
Do you do any other sport besides volleyball?
“I have tried other sports in the past like track, but I haven’t really enjoyed any other sports besides volleyball. I love the sport and have had so much fun the last couple years of playing.”
Is there a personal goal you want on the court this year?
“On the court this year I really just wanted to get some good hits in. Volleyball is a fun sport all around, but spiking in the past couple of years has grown to be my favorite part.”
What other hobbies do you have outside of sports?
“Outside of sports I enjoy writing, baking, reading, and playing instruments. At school I am the student council president and I participate in honors band, SkillsUSA, forensics, and the musical.”
Favorite vacation spot that you’ve been to?
“My favorite vacation spot was Pagosa Springs, Colo. While I was there, I got the chance to ride in a hot air balloon and the view was breathtaking. On this trip I got to see mountains for the first time and I made so many memories that I will cherish forever.”
Do you have a pre-match ritual that helps you before your matches?
“While I don’t have a specific ritual before each game, every time the national anthem plays before a game I use the moment to take a couple deep breaths and bring in my focus.”
Do you have any plans for after high school? College?
“After high school, I plan to go to college and start taking generals my first year. I have some ideas about what I want to do for a career but haven’t quite decided which direction I want to go yet. I don’t want to make a hasty decision, so I am really giving myself the time and freedom to explore different careers and find my passion. As for sports in college, I don’t think I want to do anything serious, but I don’t want to let go of volleyball and the fun I had while playing. I am thinking about joining a club where I can still enjoy the sport.”
