The Northland Pines boys hockey team is currently ranked as the top team in Division 2 hockey, and senior Michael Schmidt is a major factor in why. Along with his senior leadership, he sits second on the team in points with 21. Outside of putting 100% into hockey, Schmidt enjoys hanging out with his friends, fishing on any of the area lakes and wakesurfing in the summer. Here is more on the Northland Pines senior:
Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“My friends call me ‘Schmidty’ since my Last name is Schmidt. This started my freshman year and has stuck with me ever since.”
Do you participate in any other sports besides hockey?
Is there a personal goal you have on the ice this year?
My personal goals for this year are to never leave the rink with regret. I wanna make the most out of this year. When I look back on this year, I don’t wanna feel like I didn’t do my best.
What other hobbies do you have outside of sports?
“Outside of hockey, I enjoy fishing, hanging out with my girlfriend and my friends, and wakesurfing.”
Favorite vacation spot that you’ve been to?
“My favorite vacation spot would be the Cayman Islands. I was invited by one of my buddies and his family. It was a trip I’ll never forget.”
Do you have a pregame ritual that helps you before your games?
“My pregame ritual is to fully lock in for the game. I won’t talk to anyone besides my D-Pair, Josh. I get to the rink, tape my stick, mold my mouthguard, then stretch and warm up. During the game, I need to be the last one off of the ice and the second to last on the ice. Before we head onto the ice Josh and I do a handshake.”
