Posted

The Eagle River Area Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Golf View Road in the Town of Washington at approximately 4 a.m. on June 9.

The department said in a press release that upon arrival, firefighters found fire showing from one unit of a six-unit condominium building. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack and were able to achieve a rapid knockdown of the fire.

Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 2.5 hours to bring the incident under control and complete overhaul operations. The affected unit sustained extensive fire damage to the first floor.

The unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Several neighboring units were occupied, and residents safely evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. No injuries were reported.

The fire was contained to the unit of origin and did not extend into adjacent units, helping to minimize damage to the remainder of the building.

Mutual aid assistance was initially requested from the Conover and Three Lakes fire departments; however, due to the rapid knockdown of the fire, additional resources were not needed.

Aspirus Eagle River Ambulance, the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, and Wisconsin Public Service also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Eagle River Area Fire Department.
