What could have turned into a deadly scenario was averted when a Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police Department officer rescued one homeowner and two pets from a house fire last week.
Vilas County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a 911 call about a structure fire at a residence on Peace Pipe Road in Lac du Flambeau at 6:46 p.m. on Aug. 25.
According to the press release, the homeowner called in the fire, and stated they were the only person inside the residence and had fallen in the kitchen.
The officer arrived on scene and was able to locate the homeowner and remove them from the house. Upon arrival, the officer saw visible flames from the rear of the residence and noted the entire inside of the residence was filled with smoke. In addition to the homeowner, the officer also rescued a canine and feline from the property, the press release said.
The homeowner was transported to the local hospital for smoke inhalation.
The initial cause of the fire is still under investigation with no suspicion of criminal activity.
Thanks to the quick response from the Town of Lac du Flambeau Fire Department, the residence did not become fully engulfed. It was unknown at the time of the press release if the residence would be a partial or complete loss.
In addition to the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police Department assisting with the fire were the Town of Lac du Flambeau Fire and Ambulance Department, Woodruff Fire Department, Oneida County Med 5, Vilas County Sheriff’s Office and Dispatch Center, Lac du Flambeau Water and Sewer and Wisconsin Public Service.
