One arrested in ERPD overdose death investigation

Posted

The Eagle River Police Department (ERPD) is investigating the death of an individual that is believed to have died from a suspected drug overdose last Tuesday.

According to a press release issued by the ERPD, at approximately 2:15 a.m. on July 14, the department responded to a report of an unresponsive individual at a residence located within city limits. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was 46-year-old Sabrina Cross of Lac du Flambeau.

In an update from the police department, law enforcement indicated that a traffic stop that occurred July 16 on a vehicle that had left Lac du Flambeau led to the arrest by Portage County Sheriff’s Department in connection with this investigation.

According to the department, the investigation remains active and no further information is being released at this time.

ERPD reminded the community that illicit drugs may contain fentanyl or other highly potent synthetic opioids which can significantly increase the risk of overdose. Anyone who suspects an overdose should immediately call 911. Prompt medical intervention and the administration of naloxone (commonly known as Narcan), when available can save lives.

Narcan is available to the public at ERPD as part of the Law Enforcement Leave Behind Program.

Assisting ERPD with the investigation was Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, Aspirus Eagle River Hospital, and the Oneida County Medical Examiner.
