Paul Maas
Paul Maas, of Deerfield, IL and a summer resident of Three Lakes, passed away peacefully late on Christmas night, December 25, 2024.
Paul was born and raised in Chicago in 1939. He married his high school sweetheart Joan, in 1962.
Paul leaves behind his wife Joan, children John, Susan, and Ann (Mike) and grandchildren Melanie (Ryan), Ashley, Joey, Jonanthan and Hailey.
Paul was an architectural graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and went on to design many churches throughout the Midwest.
In 1970, Paul and Joan purchased a small, yellow cottage on Wheeler Island Road in Three Lakes for a summer vacation home for their young family. Over many decades, that little yellow cottage grew in size and property as the architect in Paul created a legacy for his growing family. In the 1980’s, Paul and his son John remodeled and built several homes on Wheeler Island Road. Back in Illinois, he started Screenflex Portable Partitions working alongside all of his children.
Paul enjoyed woodworking and hanging artwork. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and bowhunting. With a bow and arrow, he shot a Blackbear off Shackleford Road. The Bear skin hangs in the family cottage today. Lucky enough to travel and see the world, his favorite place was sitting on the deck or hammock watching Island Lake, nature and the kids.
Family meant everything to Paul. Spending time with them was so important which is why Paul wanted to create such a happy place in Three Lakes for all to enjoy. Fourth of July was always one of those times with everyone together at the Three Lakes morning parade. So many fond memories and more memories will be made thanks to our Dad at the place we still call “The Cottage”.
Many Wheeler Island residents will miss seeing, the white-haired guy walking around the road and yard with his hat, jacket, gloves and wheelbarrow.
Services and burial were held back on December 30, 2024, in Illinois. PAID OBITUARY
