Phelps Eleanor Ellis Public Library offers reading opportunities

Posted

The Phelps Library is currently offering reading opportunities for young readers, promoting early literacy and giving children the opportunity to check out books.

“Every time a book is read, it unlocks a whole new world, especially for a child. Reading a book to a child stimulates their imagination, has the ability to teach a lesson, make them laugh, or even comfort them. Taking the time to read to a child conveys to them that they have worth and matter to you,” said Youth Services Director Carol Litchfield. “The library is at the heart of Phelps, Wisconsin, and I mean that literally. There is a special rhythm to this community, and we are proud to be a part of it. Getting kids excited about reading is part of that rhythm. That excitement needs to be kindled at an early age so that they can grow into the wonder of reading.”

Twice a month, the Phelps Library and friends bring story time to the Phelps Public School day care. Once in school, the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes come to the library monthly for story time and the opportunity to check out books for themselves.

First graders also visit the library once a month to learn more about the library and check out books.

Storytime is held at the library the second Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. Children in the community ages 3-7 are welcome to attend with an adult.

Those children who attend will leave with a take-and-make craft and “the wonder of the books read to them that day.”
