Phelps Lions’ vision screening supports student eye health

Posted

The Phelps/Land O’ Lakes Lions Clubs recently conducted a vision screening at Phelps Grade and Middle School, testing students in K4 through 8th grade using a Welch Allyn spot scanner. This quick test identifies vision issues, and parents are notified if follow-up with an optometrist is recommended. Of the 47 students screened, five were referred for further evaluation.

Phelps Lion Brian Blank enjoyed interacting with the students, noting, “It was great talking with all the kids during our vision screening. I heard they were working on proportions and fractions in math, were reading an interesting novel in English, and were competing in scooter races in gym class. We also heard all about this year’s popular Halloween costumes and the K and 1st graders shared their dream costumes for the weekend trick or treating.”

Second-grade teacher Pam Klessig expressed gratitude to the Lions, stating, “It is so vital for our students.”
