Phillip Wayne Valentine, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on November 2, 1938, in Whitewater, Wisconsin, Wayne spent his early years working on his family farm. He lived a life devoted to service and community and always helped others without hesitation.
Wayne served his country with honor and integrity for 21 years in the U.S. Army. After his military career, he became a Walworth County Deputy Sheriff, dedicating 25 years to serving the community. Beyond his work, Wayne was a skilled carpenter and took immense pride in his craft. Wayne was also an active member of St. Mary’s Church, Whitewater Knights of Columbus, and the Whitewater American Legion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Pauline; his children, Deborah Valentine, Stephen (Ann) Valentine, and Patricia (Kenneth) Sommers; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Wayne, eldest of eight, is also survived by Annamarie, John, Rosemary, and Helen.
He was preceded in eternal life by his father, Martin; mother, Marien; siblings, Mary Margaret, Paul, and Martha. Wayne’s legacy of service, dedication, and unwavering love for his family continues to inspire all who knew him.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting and fishing in northern Wisconsin, and watching the Green Bay Packers.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday January 5, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church, Sayner, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mary’s Church in Wayne’s memory.
