Pioneer Lake Lutheran Church donates quilts and care kits

Posted

Pioneer Lake Lutheran Church recently completed their Lutheran World Relief (LWR) project that produced 35 personal care kits and 58 quilts.

The goal was to make 30 personal care kits, but with donated items, the volunteers were able to surpass and complete 35 kits this year.

Each kit contains a towel, two bars of soap, a comb, a toothbrush and nail clipper. Donated items not used in the 35 kits will be donated to Frederick Place in Rhinelander and Headwaters Food Pantry in Land O’ Lakes.

58 quilts were completed by quilters Sandy Martin, Jean Wolff, Joyce Blaser, Pat Tesch, Linda Rectenwald, Val Laabs, Mary Wakelyn and Jane Kerstner. Pastor Peggy Rose wanted to thank the quilters and those members who made generous donations of materials to make so many quilts.

Eight quilts will stay in the area and be used for local events such as the Fortune Lake Fall Fest and the Quilt Auction held in Crystal Falls, Mich.

This year, LWR has expanded its relief efforts to benefit people in disaster areas across the United States.

Quilts and personal care kits were blessed during the Oct. 13 service and will be on their way to people who need them.
