Posted

The Eagle River Figure Skating Club was well represented on the East Coast at State Games of America in State College, Penn., where six skaters faced high-level competition from July 28-Aug. 2 and returned home with a total of nine medals. Three coaches joined the athletes at the event.

Skaters ranged in age from nine to 16, and the group won one gold, five silver and three bronze medals. Skaters who competed included Vienna Bornberg, Karista Kaminski, Carmen Kranz, Aubrey Lathrop, Bristol Parling, and Valerie Paquet.

“The girls showed great sportsmanship and made many unforgettable memories. The next State Games of America will be held in the summer of 2028 in Colorado Springs. The girls will start fundraising for this next competition shortly, so look out for ways you can support our skaters,” the club said about the experience.

The girls competed in different styles of events, which ranged from doing a showcase or entertainment number and skill events with jumps, spins and freeskate routines.

Each skater works hard year-round with practices, shows and competitions in the winter and spring, along with ice time throughout the summer months.
