Three Bluejay golfers fire scores in the 70s at Northern Lakes meet

It was a day of scoring for the Three Lakes-Phelps varsity golf team, as three players fired rounds in the 70s during a Northern Lakes Conference meet at Nicolet Country Club in Laona Tuesday afternoon. The team took first place with a 312, beating out Crandon’s score of 318. 

This was the second consecutive meet for the Jays, after playing at the Marathon Invitational at Pine Valley Golf Course on Monday. 

In Laona, freshman Trenton Peterson put his stamp on the meet with a second-place finish individually with a 76. Senior Grayson Polcaster was in a three-way tie for fifth with a 77. Sophomore Sean Wallschlaeger also fired a 77 for Three Lakes, followed by seniors Matthew Klein and Levi Lurvey, who shot 82 and 83, respectively. All golfers finished inside the top 10. 

Other team scores in the event were Laona-Wabeno in third with 343, Florence with 382 and Goodman-Pembine with 441. 

The Bluejays also competed in Marathon on Monday. The team finished in third place in that meet with a team score of 352. Tomahawk and Marathon finished first and second, with 340 and 345, respectively. Polcaster led Three Lakes in scoring with a nine-over 80 to take third. Lurvey tied for ninth individually with an 88 and Wallschlaeger finished right behind his teammate in a tie for 11th. Klein and Owen Liebscher rounded out the scores with a 95 and 99, respectively. 

The team will now regroup and head to George Young Golf Course next Monday for another NLC meet.
