Three Pines golfers named to all-GNC teams

Posted

After ending the season as a team at sectionals and finishing second in the Great Northern Conference behind Lakeland, three Northland Pines golfers made first and second team all-conference for their play this season.

Senior Ryder Will accumulated 33 conference points and was named to the All-GNC first team.

Sophomore Sam Shrock and senior Anderson Kielty were also named to the second team All-GNC this season.

Will was third in the conference in total points, one shy of Mosinee’s Alex Steppke and Lakeland’s Jeremy Hensen, who won conference player of the year with 38.33 points. The senior made the jump from a second-team selection last year.

Will held medalist honors in three conference meets this season and only missed out on the top 10 in two of the seven meets.

He had a season low score of 73 in two meets at Rhinelander and the home meet in Eagle River, where he took first place individually and a 76 to take first in Medford.

Shrock and Kielty both improved from honorable mention selections a year ago to second team selections this year. Shrock tallied 24 conference points, having his best finish of third place in the final GNC meet in Medford. His scores ranged from the 70s to the mid-80s during his sophomore campaign.

Kielty was one of the anchors on the team this year, tallying 19.5 points throughout three conference meets where he finished inside the top 10. The senior ended with three top-five finishes in conference play, including fourth in Tomahawk early in the year, third in Rhinelander and fourth at the home meet in Eagle River in late May.

Will and Kielty recently graduated from Northland Pines, and Shrock will be one of just two returning players next year who had varsity experience this past season. Kielty will continue his golf career this fall at Lourdes University in Ohio.
