The Town of Washington will receive more than $5,000 in funding this year as part of the Wisconsin DNR’s 2026 Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant awards.
The process is highly competitive with numerous applications vying for the limited grant funding each year, and town representatives said they are “fortunate” to receive $5,411 in Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) monies.
Projects included in the grant encompass roadside chipping on Bass Lake for all 120 residents, home ignition zone assessments for west side Bass Lake residents, and brush site maintenance for the town.
Since 2017, Washington has received $106,681 in CWPP funding at no cost to residents.
Brush site chipping is currently funded by a five-year Community Wildfire Defense Grant which ends in 2027.
