Two seats on the St. Germain Town Board are up for election this Tuesday, April 7. Patric Niggemeier, incumbent, submitted candidacy paperwork for Supervisor 1 and is running uncontested.
The Town of St. Germain did not receive candidacy paperwork for Supervisor 2 prior to the deadline to be included on the ballot and now has two registered write-in candidates vying for the position.
Brian Cooper had initially filed non-candidacy paperwork for the position, but with the lack of candidates, he then submitted paperwork as a write-in candidate. Former Supervisor Tom Christensen has also launched a campaign as a write-in candidate.
On election day, the polls will be open at 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the St Germain Community Center, located at 545 Highway 155. Photo ID is required for all elections.
Brian Cooper: Brian Cooper has lived in St. Germain with his wife for 19 years. He was elected to the town board in 2018 and has served in the role of Supervisor 2 since then.
He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1987 and then went on to graduate from Wyoming Technical Institute with a Diesel Technology degree. He lived in the Milwaukee area and worked at GM dealerships, ultimately earning the title of GM Master Technician.
He now operates a successful automotive repair shop in Sugar Camp that was started by his father in 1995.
Cooper has been on the St. Germain Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department since 2020 and serves as the station engineer, as well as a certified firefighter and emergency medical technician. As part of the department, he and other members created the ice rink in the town park pavilion.
In 2017, Cooper was appointed to the St. Germain Zoning Committee, and was then appointed chairman to the committee in 2024.
Then as a town board representative to the Big St. Germain Area Lakes District Committee in 2018.
He played an integral role in the development of the St. Germain Disc Golf Course which opened late last summer.
“It is an amazing course that winds through the forest on town property and has seen a lot of play since opening. At no cost to the town, this course was built by volunteers using donated equipment, materials and baskets,” Cooper said.
During his time as a supervisor, Cooper has been tasked with researching issues and updating town ordinances. He credits his career in operating the auto repair shop with providing the needed experience to listen to and work with people of the community.
Cooper is running for his fifth term as supervisor to continue to provide honesty, transparency and accountability within the government to the people of the town, as well as carry through initiatives that have been discussed.
The town board last fall was looking into an outdoor multi-sport court that would offer both basketball and pickleball space. Cooper aims to continue those talks and make the courts a reality.
Cooper’s candidate statement: “In my very diverse roles, listening to different ideas that the residents of St. Germain have is important. I see and talk to people that have many interests, boating, snowmobiling, golfing, ATV/UTV, hiking, biking, hunting and fishing to name a few. Anyone that contacts me, I listen and I hear. Whether it’s on your best day or your worst, I will try to help out. Thank you for your time and trust in me over the last 8 years. Once again, I humbly ask for your vote on April 7. Please write in Brian Cooper for Supervisor 2.”
Tom Christenson: Tom Christensen moved to St. Germain 30 years ago with his wife and children. They purchased St. Germain Sport Marine and have operated it since that time.
He has served on a number of boards and committees within the town, including the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club, St. Germain Chamber of Commerce, Northland Pines School District, and Town of St. Germain. Committee seats have included the Chamber’s Budget Committee, Northland Pines’ Finance and Negotiating committees, and the Town’s Finance, Golf Course and Public Works committees.
Christensen credits his time on multiple governmental boards and committees, as well as being a business owner for 30 years as the needed experience to be an asset to the town.
“After serving 12 years on the town board, two as a supervisor and 10 as the chairman, I realized I genuinely enjoyed serving our community as a board member,” Christensen said. “After a year away, I came to understand just how much that work means to me.”
Topics of interest would include the long-term strategic planning including town roads; updating fire department and Department of Public Works equipment; park improvements; and land use.
Christensen’s candidate statement: “St. Germain deserves steady, experienced leadership. I am Tom Christensen — 30-year local small-business owner at St. Germain Sport Marine — and I am asking you to write in Tom Christensen for Supervisor 2 on April 7, 2026. I served 12 years as town chairman and board member and currently serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Recently, Chairman Vojta and the full town board appointed me to the Finance Committee and to chair the Emergency Services Bylaws Committee updating fire department bylaws. I have delivered responsible budgets, dedicated maintenance funds, record golf course performance, and the Town Zoom Room for transparency. Let us keep St. Germain moving forward.”
