On a blustery Veterans Day morning, community members gathered at the Veterans Center in downtown Land O’ Lakes to honor past and present service members.
The ceremony, led by Chris Cichy, Post Commander of VFW Post 8400, began at 11 a.m. with a traditional Honor Guard rifle salute. Scott Topp sounded Taps, followed by Michelle Carter (USAF) ringing the VFW bell in tribute.
Following the outdoor tribute, attendees moved indoors for the ceremony’s completion, beginning with an opening prayer.
In his address, Commander Cichy emphasized the sacrifices made not only by veterans, but also by their families — spouses, partners and children — who endure long separations during deployments.
