The Vilas County Summer ATV/UTV Trail System is now open, having first opened last Friday, May 2, at 8 a.m.
The Lakeland ATV Club, Landover ATV Club, Sayner Barnstormers, and St. Germain ATV Club, sponsors of the Vilas County funded trail and route system, have volunteered their time brushing, signing, and performing trail tread maintenance to have the trails properly prepared for the upcoming season.
The Vilas County Summer ATV/UTV Trail System consists of 39.5 miles of trails, 12.7 miles of “troutes,” and now some county highways that are open to ATV/UTV travel. All lettered county highways are open for ATV/UTV travel, with the exception of those in the Town of Lac du Flambeau. Numbered highways in the county, however, are not open for use.
Those looking to hit the trails are reminded to “Ride Right,” staying to the right of a trail, staying on marked trails, don’t drink and drive, and respect others on the trail.
For more information on the Vilas County UTV/ATV trails, visit vilascountywi.gov or contact Parks and Recreation Supervisor Todd Bierman at 715-479-5160.
