A water-related death that occurred on Spring Lake in the town of Lincoln is under investigation by the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office.
Vilas County Dispatch received a 911 call May 27 just after 8 p.m. reporting a boat near the shores of Spring Lake was partially submerged in water and a male was floating face down nearby.
The press release stated that upon arrival of the first deputy on scene, they located the boat and the male in the water. The deputy entered the water and brought the male back to shore. It was determined the male was deceased.
Shortly after arriving on location, law enforcement was able to confirm the 76-year-old male recovered from the water was the sole occupant of the boat.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Aspirus Eagle River Ambulance, Eagle River Fire and Rescue, the Wisconsin DNR, and the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to always wear their life jackets while recreating on the water.
