Iowa man pleads guilty to contractor theft in Vilas Court

Donald Alcus, 53, of Prairie City, Iowa, pleaded guilty to one felony count of theft by contractor, greater than $10,000 but less than $100,000, in Vilas County Circuit Court last week. Judge Daniel Overbey withheld a sentence and ordered Alcus to serve two years of probation. Alcus will also pay $518 in court costs and $25,327.42 in restitution, plus all applicable surcharges. The total must be paid before the completion of probation. There were six days of presentence credit. The offense occurred on April 1, 2024.

Aaron Hoyt, 40, of Eagle River, appeared for a plea/sentencing hearing on one felony charge of attempt to take and drive a vehicle without consent. A felony bail-jumping charge was dismissed but read into the record for sentencing. Hoyt pleaded guilty to count one, and Judge Martha Milanowski sentenced him to nine months in jail, which will run concurrent to what he is currently serving at Dodge Correctional Facility. There were 77 days of presentence credit in this specific case. The offense took place on July 19, 2026.
