The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual dinner and awards ceremony on Dec. 11 at Eagle Waters Resort, recognizing the Business of the Year, Man and Woman of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.

Business of the Year: Republic Services

Chosen from among the chamber’s nearly 350 members, all considered equally regardless of size by the Chamber Board Executive Committee, Republic Services was named Eagle River’s 2025 Business of the Year in recognition of its strong community involvement, environmental leadership, and continued support of local events and organizations.

The waste management company was recognized for its role as a trusted partner in sustainable recycling and waste solutions, as well as for its commitment to serving both customers and the community. “Their community-minded staff is easy to work with and checks in frequently with customers to be sure their needs are being met,” the chamber said.

Republic Services has also supported numerous community initiatives, including the donation of an AED machine for the Eagle River Pickleball Courts and a $250,000 contribution to the ERRA Save the Dome campaign.

“Republic Services’ partnership provides an essential resource that demonstrates a true local commitment to the well-being of our community, ensuring events like Sausage Fest, Burger Bash, and Cranberry Fest are run smoothly and successfully,” the chamber said. “They are a dependable partner who sets an example of what it means to give back and support local efforts that make a difference.”

Woman of the Year: Karen Margelofsky

The 2025 Woman of the Year award was presented to Eagle River Revitalization Program Executive Director Karen Margelofsky in recognition of her vision, energy, and dedication to transforming Eagle River into a thriving, vibrant community.

In the four years since Margelofsky joined the Eagle River Revitalization Program, the community has seen the creation of The Square, a welcoming gathering space for residents and visitors; the expansion of the Farmers Market, including the addition of a new shed; and the awarding of more than 28 building improvement grants and 28 sign grants, helping give the business district a fresh, inviting appearance.

Margelofsky also brought FAB Lab grants to Northland Pines, enhanced playgrounds for local children, and launched YEM!, the Young Entrepreneur Market, which has thrived for two years while inspiring the next generation of business leaders.

She led cultural initiatives such as Artscape, supported local artists, and played a key role in Eagle River earning Main Street of the Year honors in 2024, along with Gold Tier Program status from Main Street Wisconsin. Through her persistence, the community secured significant funding, including a $250,000 Impact Grant and a $50,000 Vibrant Spaces Grant, fueling continued growth and opportunity.

“Karen’s commitment goes beyond her professional achievements,” the chamber said while presenting Margelofsky with her award. “She volunteers at numerous community events, including Cranberry Fest, where she led the downtown cranberries booth, and regularly involves her family in community efforts.

“She has served as a first point of contact for many business owners, offering guidance and support with a smile. Her vigilance on city and county affairs helped ensure that every project aligned with the community’s best interests.”

Man of the Year: Jerry Robish

Jerry Robish was named Eagle River’s 2025 Man of the Year in recognition of his lifelong dedication, leadership, and service to the community. Deeply rooted in Eagle River, Robish’s family history reflects that commitment. His father, Dell Robish, helped establish the very first Cranberry Fest.

Since returning to Eagle River from Minneapolis 20 years ago, Robish has been an active member of the Eagle River Lions organization, helped revive the Eagle River Men’s Golf League during the pandemic, supported the Vilas County Humane Society, and led Sausage Fest for the past eight years.

“Under his guidance, Sausage Fest has remained family-friendly and affordable, ensuring that everyone can join in the fun,” the chamber said. “His peers affectionately call him ‘BKOSF,’ the Benevolent King of Sausage Fest, and rightly so.”

“What truly sets Jerry apart is his ability to rally others,” the chamber added. “He doesn’t just volunteer; he inspires. He brings people together, mobilizes support, and creates opportunities for everyone to contribute. His work is often quiet and selfless, but its impact is loud and lasting.”

Volunteer of the Year: Brian Klemmer

The Volunteer of the Year Award was created to recognize volunteers who help strengthen the Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center and its programs.

This year, the chamber named Brian Klemmer its 2025 Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his generosity, flexibility, and behind-the-scenes dedication.

A longtime chamber volunteer, Klemmer is known for his cheerful attitude and willingness to help wherever needed, contributing to events such as Up North BeerFest, the National Championship Musky Open, Cranberry Fest, and Old Fashioneds Up North.

“It means a lot to all of us to know there is someone like Brian who we can count on for support,” the chamber said.
