Highland Cottage Cafe debuts at Eagle River Farmers Market

Posted

Strolling through the Eagle River Farmers Market on Wednesday, I ran into the cutest duo ever: Latte and Macchiato, two fluffy mini-Highland cows stealing the show.

Owned by Amy and Tyler Jakubowski, these shaggy charmers were there to hype up their upcoming Highland Cottage Cafe in Sugar Camp.

Amy says she has been dreaming of running her coffee shop forever, and now it’s happening. She and Tyler snagged the Sugar Camp property in October 2024, but it needed some serious love — a new roof, siding, windows, plumbing and more. Thanks to Tyler’s construction expertise and the support of local friends, the vision is taking shape.

“The community’s enthusiasm fuels us,” Tyler shared. “It’s a slow process, but every step feels worth it.”

The cafe’s name, Highland Cottage, comes from Amy’s obsession with Highland cows — those adorable, shaggy Scottish cattle. Latte and Macchiato, the cafe’s official mascots, will hang out on the patio in summer, ready for pets while guests sip their coffee.

“They’re just so lovable,” Amy said with a smile. “We want the cafe to feel like a warm hug, just like them.”

The couple says to expect more than just great coffee. They’re planning signature lattes, espressos, craft cocktails, mocktails, wines and teas. A drive-thru keeps things quick, and a kids’ menu (thanks to their four kiddos) makes it family-friendly. The enclosed patio and future playground mean parents can chill while kids have fun.

Food-wise, it’s all scratch-made breakfasts and lunches with organic ingredients whenever possible.

“No pre-packaged stuff,” Amy says. “Just fresh, tasty food that’s good for you.”

The cafe seats 35 inside and 25 on the patio, perfect for catching up with friends.

Community’s a big deal for Amy and Tyler — they plan to use the café as a gathering place for church events and service days.

“Giving back just feels right,” said Tyler, who’s a deputy sheriff, National Guard member, and Black Hawk pilot.

Highland Cottage Cafe is set to open this fall, with updates on their Facebook page.
