Jason Linn, Northland Pines cross country

Posted

The Senior Spotlight series will highlight the senior athletes in the area around the communities of Eagle River, Three Lakes, and Phelps. This week, Northland Pines cross country runner Jason Linn is in the spotlight. Linn started running in third grade and has done it ever since. The senior found his record in his final high school race, which was under the 18-minute mark. Linn plans on attending college in the Big Ten for business at UW-Madison or Purdue. Here is more on the Pines senior:

What really got you into running? What made you stick with it?

“My running career started in third grade when I joined Mission Possible Running Club and from there it was just what I did. My mom always pushed me to keep running because she was a good runner in high school and she saw potential in me. My coach, Mr.G, was there from the beginning as he helped with the run club and he has been a part of every season since then.”

Is there a nickname that your friends or family call you?

“My friends and teammates call me JLinn and my parents don’t really have a nickname for me.”

You finished second-team all-conference this year. Was that a goal you wanted to reach for?

“My original goal was first-team all-conference this year, but some of the Lakeland boys ran a very good race. I was still happy with my placement as the conditions were a little warmer than I was used to.”

What is your favorite holiday?

“I think my favorite holiday is probably Thanksgiving. I really enjoy all of the food and spending time with my family. It is also right after deer season and, as long as there is safe ice, it is always the first day we ice fish for the year.”

What is your favorite accomplishment from high school XC?

“My favorite XC accomplishment is definitely breaking 18 (minutes) for the first time in my last-ever race. Just an incredible way to end my career. It was also something that I had been working on since my sophomore year, so it was good to achieve that.”

Do you have a favorite winter activity?

“My favorite winter sport is definitely downhill skiing. I have been doing it since I was two and got into racing in my 7th grade year. It is an enjoyable family activity and I love to travel and explore new hills.”

What are your plans for after high school?

“Right now, my plan is to attend college for business. I would like to go to UW-Madison or Purdue.”
