Linn leads Pines runners at Three Lakes Invite

Posted

Senior Jason Linn led the Northland Pines boys and girls cross-country teams with a ninth-place finish at the Three Lakes Invitational last Thursday at Big Stone Golf Course.

Linn finished the course in 18:20 to navigate to a top-10 finish. The boys finished fourth overall out of six teams, while the girls took fifth place out of five teams at the competition.

“Jason had a very good run tonight. He worked his way through the pack to secure a top-ten finish,” said Pines coach Patrick Gauthier.

Behind Linn were three Eagles with times under 20 minutes. Ethan Miller (19:13), Jonathan Miller (19:51) and Cole Wiedenbeck (20:20) took 16th, 22nd and 30th, respectively, out of 73 runners. Matt Milanowski rounded out the team’s score of 101 with a 43rd-place finish.

Griffin Beyer and Owen Grassl both crossed the line together at 22:30.

In the girls race, Pines only put out five runners, so every score counted toward the standings. Freshman Sophie Hoffman finished first for the Eagles for the first time this season, taking 21st out of 59 racers.

“Sophie did a great job of showing leadership today by being the first Pines runner to cross the finish line,” said Gauthier.

Aubrey White took 25th place with a time of 25:23, with Kaydance Brost running to a 36th place finish at 26:38. Ava Gaetano finished the run with a time of 27:31, while Jessica Linn finished her first race of the season with a finish of 27:11.

The Eagles will travel to Medford for their next meet this Thursday, Oct. 3, starting at 5 p.m.
