Northland Pines track and field senior Miana Miller focuses on just track and field in the spring, while she also became a manager for the varsity football team during her junior year and last fall as a senior. One goal she has to work on for the rest of the track season is to break 90 feet in the discus. Here is more on the Pines senior athlete:
Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“I’ve never had a commonly known nickname, I have such a unique name and I absolutely love hearing people butcher the pronunciation, so I’ve always denied nicknames.”
Do you participate in any other sports besides track?
“My junior and senior years, I managed the football team. Football is the sport that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My family, especially my brother, has largely influenced my love for football. Since I was little, I always wanted to be a part of the team.”
Do you have a personal goal for track this year?
“My goal this season is to hit 90 feet in discus. I also have a goal of doing more running events, which has been going good so far.”
What other hobbies do you have outside of sports?
“I love outdoor activities, my favorites include hiking, nature photography and fishing. I also love doing arts and crafts; sometimes I even watercolor paint on the bus ride before a meet.”
Do you have a pregame ritual that helps you before your meets?
“Listening to music is a must for me. It is rare for me to not have my ear buds in for at least part of the bus ride.”
Do you have any plans for after high school? College? Do you want to play a sport in college?
“I will be attending Northern Michigan University this fall to major in Biology with a concentration in Ecology. I will also be getting my teaching certification. I plan to do field research at first, then pursue my ultimate goal of becoming a science teacher. I do not plan on doing any sports; however, I have a feeling I will end up joining a club sport.”
