Nicolet National Bank Senior Spotlight

Xavier Gaffny is one of the returning starters for the Northland Pines varsity football team this season. As he enters his senior season in both football and track and field, Gaffny hopes to finish the fall season as an all-conference player at safety in the Northwoods Conference. When Gaffny is not playing his two sports, he enjoys the Northwoods lakes and running. Here is more on the Northland Pines senior:

Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“My friends call me Jav or Javi. I got it from my middle school baseball coach, and it’s stuck with me since then.”

Do you participate in any other sports besides football?
“Another sport I do is track and field. I run the 400-meter dash and the 4x4. I was named a team captain for this upcoming season.”

Is there a personal goal you have on the field this year?
“A personal goal I have this year is to earn an all-conference honor at safety.”

What other hobbies do you have outside of sports?
“Hobbies I enjoy outside of my sports are being out on the water and running.”

Favorite vacation spot that you’ve been to?

“My favorite vacation spot has been Clearwater, Fla. It’s just a really nice area with so much around it to go do and see.”

Do you have a pregame ritual that helps you before your games?
“My pregame ritual is just breathing throughout warm-ups, and before we go out, I’ll take a second to close my eyes and just take a breath. It helps me stay focused and gets me ready to go out and play.”

Do you have any plans for after high school? College?
“After high school, I hope to attend UW-Lacrosse and hopefully run track and field there.”
