Northland Pines foundation awards first Educational Enrichment Grants

Posted

The Northland Pines Community Foundation has announced the four recipients of its first Educational Enrichment Grants, following the review of 11 applications. Foundation officials said the strong response marked an encouraging start for the new program.

St. Germain Elementary School teacher Aubree Foster received funding to purchase additional Tonie Box books and characters to support early readers in developing listening and literacy skills. The materials will be shared throughout the school and will also be available for future kindergarten classes.

Eagle River 4K teacher Kathleen Brendemihl was awarded a grant to purchase visual-motor development tools, including a marble run, engineer kit, Roll’n Go and other resources. The tools will be shared among 4K classes and used in future years.

Land O’Lakes School third- and fourth-grade students will benefit from funding to provide dedicated power to the school garden, making it possible to add a chicken coop. The project will also include programming to create a “Living Laboratory,” where students will learn about the interdependence of species and food systems. The grant application was submitted by third- and fourth-grade teacher Ivy Lapp.

The final grant was awarded to the Eagle River fifth-grade team, with the application submitted by Catherine Libby. The funding will allow fifth-grade students to travel to a planetarium in Wausau for hands-on space education.

The foundation approved a total of $4,075 in grant funding. The next Educational Enrichment Grant cycle will open in spring 2026.

“There are so many wonderful ideas developing among Northland Pines School District faculty,” foundation officials said. “Our students benefit from their creativity, and this grant program is one way we can support those efforts.”
