CHRISTMAS KICKOFF — Let the holidays begin: At the Christmas Kickoff at Riverview Park in Eagle River on Saturday, children played in the snow among festive holiday light displays as a DJ played Christmas music from the band shell. A small indoor space offered a break from the cold, where members of the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce and the Veterans Resource Center served cookies, hot cocoa and hot dogs. —Staff Photos By CHRISTINA BRANDMEIER
Children chatted with Santa and Mrs. Claus and posed for photos throughout the evening.

Roaring fires became a popular gathering spot on the frigid night.
After the tree lighting, the Northland Pines High School Madrigal Singers, led by music teacher Kate Janssen, serenaded the crowd with classic Christmas carols.
