SERVICE DAY — Students from grades 7-12 at Northland Pines School District set out on a foggy Wednesday morning Oct. 29 to perform community clean-up services for more than 50 local spaces and residents. Hundreds of students, rakes in hand, help clean up leaves and do minor fall chores. The day counts towards students' required community service hours. High school science teacher Peter Aerts instructs one of his student volunteers on what to work on.
Community members can also volunteer their time to help with the groups of students. Here, community member and avid volunteer Nancy Schuller helps a student pick up leaves.
Students receive instruction from team leaders before getting to work.
