Road closures, signed detour in place for West Shore Road

Posted

PHELPS — West Shore Road in Phelps will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday, Oct. 19, for a construction project to replace existing culverts with a bridge structure at the headwaters of the Wisconsin River.

The road closure is expected to last five to six weeks, though work could take up to 60 days depending on weather and site conditions.

A marked 7.27-mile detour will guide motorists around the construction zone. The designated alternate route proceeds as follows: Travel west on Highway E for 2.79 miles to Highway 45. Turn right and head north on Highway 45 for 2.32 miles to the Michigan state line. Turn right onto Crystal Lake Road in Michigan and travel 2.25 miles. Continue as Crystal Lake Road transitions back into West Shore Road upon re-entering Wisconsin, traveling 2.23 miles to the north side of the construction site.

Detour signage has been posted along the route. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and use caution when navigating the detour.

For additional information regarding the project timeline or road conditions, contact the highway department or visit the county website.
