The Senior Spotlight series will highlight the senior athletes in the area around the communities of Eagle River, Three Lakes, and Phelps. This week starts the winter sports season with Northland Pines senior hockey player Nick Boxrucker kicking things off.
Boxrucker started skating when he was three and got formally introduced to hockey when he was four. He was also named co-defensive player of the year in the Great Northern Conference this fall in soccer. Here is more on the Pines senior:
How long have you played hockey? What’s your favorite part?
“I started skating when I was three, then started hockey when I was four and kept with it through my career. My favorite part was growing up with all of my friends through hockey.”
Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“A nickname a lot of my friends and family call me is “box,” just because of my last name.”
What’s an individual goal you have this season?
“An individual goal I have this year is to exceed 20 points this season.”
Who is your favorite hockey player to watch?
“My favorite hockey player to watch is Alexander Ovechkin because it just amazes me how someone can be so good at that age.”
Would you rather play Playstation or Xbox?
“I would rather play PlayStation because that’s what I had a few years ago.”
Where is your favorite vacation spot?
“My favorite vacation spot was Banff, Canada, because of all of the scenery and things to do and see.”
Do you have plans for after high school?
“I am not positive about my plans after high school, but I will probably go straight to work in the trades or attend a two-year tech school to get my CDL and explore other opportunities.”
