The Strikeout cancer benefit event that will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Buckshots Saloon north of Eagle River will be a fundraising event for two Northland Pines employees who are battling cancer.
Rob Govek and Steve Beckett, both long-term staff members and coaches at Northland Pines, recently got diagnosed with colon and tongue cancer, respectively.
There will be bucket raffles, a 50/50 raffle, silent auctions, a pie walk, and brats, burgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase.
All money raised at the event will be used towards medical bills and other related expenses.
Govek is currently fighting Stage IV colon cancer and is a tech ed teacher at Northland Pines. He has been a baseball coach for over 20 years after playing baseball at UW-Stevens Point.
Beckett was diagnosed with tongue cancer and, just like Govek, helps out with the Northland Pines baseball program as a volunteer. The two became friends and often went fishing and hunting together when time allowed.
Anyone not able to attend the event, but who wants to donate to the cause, direct message Dianna Krohn or Shelli Klessig on Facebook.
