Somewhat uncommon here but always treasured when they show up, the Northern Cardinal is popular with birders and those who feed birds in their back yards. That’s especially true for the bright red males, which with their black throat, are unmistakable. Their slurred-whistle call, usually delivered from the top of some high tree, is also unmistakable.
