Although the high school hockey season is still about three months away, travel hockey teams are still in full swing. Northland Pines girls’ hockey players junior Lucy Nowak and sophomore Ayla Shepardson both made the Team Wisconsin 16U team and competed at a team camp in Verona a few weekends ago.
This is Nowak’s third year on the squad and Shepardson’s first season with Team Wisconsin.
The duo played in two games near Madison against Team Illinois, with Nowak in goal for a 2-1 OT win. After a low-scoring affair in the first game, Team Wisconsin fell in a 4-5 overtime loss as the two teams split. Shepardson did score one goal in the loss.
Both players continued their travel hockey journey over the Labor Day holiday weekend at the North American Hockey Academy (NAHA) Labor Day tournament in Boston, Mass. Over 100 Division one and Division two coaches were in attendance.
