Volunteers needed for inaugural muskie-fishing outing slated June 28 in Boulder Junction area
By News-Review Staff
Northwoods Muskies Inc. will hold a “Learn to Muskie Fish” day Sunday, June 28, from 8 a.m. to noon in Boulder Junction and is seeking volunteer anglers to help with the event.
This is the first event of its kind put on by the organization, and Jeff Kinnally of Northwoods Muskies Inc. is thrilled to launch the new endeavor.
“This is our first time doing an event like this and we are very excited to see how it goes,” Kinnally said. “We have already exceeded the number of guides that have signed up to help and have started a waiting list in hopes of finding more to help to get more kids out on the water.”
Headquartered at Gooch’s 2 in Boulder Junction, participants will meet up ahead of the 8 a.m. fishing time to sign waivers and match new anglers with guides before hitting the water. After fishing concludes, everyone will go back to Gooch’s for prizes, raffles and lunch. Youths taking part are age 12 and older, along with their parents or guardian.
This event is put on by volunteers and offers fishing excursions for beginners or those who are more advanced.
Northwoods Muskies Inc. is based in Minocqua and works with youth, fisheries and research programs to provide engaging programs as well as hosts chapter outings, tournaments and fundraisers. The goal of the chapter is to further the mission of Muskies Inc. by involving more young anglers, promoting conservation and getting more fish in the lakes and rivers.
The group is also hosting a series of Kids Fishing Days this summer. Upcoming dates include Tuesdays, July 14 and Aug. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Minocqua Fishing Pier.
