THREE LAKES — Registration is still open for the one-day muskie classic, formerly the Three Lakes Fall Classic.
Billed as one of the longest running muskie tournaments in the Northwoods, this year it returns to the Three Lakes Chain of Lakes for its 41st event on Saturday, Aug. 29.
According to Co-director Lionel Kliss, there are still openings for any two person teams who would like to fish this fun family-oriented tournament. The field is limited to only 50 two-person teams.
“The relatively small field gives everyone a good chance of placing at or near the top. Also, along with payouts to the top three teams, we pay cash prizes for every registered fish. We’ve also added a youth discount for youth angler participants,” Kliss said.
New for this year, no forward facing sonar or 360 imaging will be allowed.
“We feel this helps make the classic more competitive and more fair for everyone” Kliss said. “It has always been a fun, family event and we feel this change helps keep it that way!”
The muskie classic is a nonprofit fund raiser benefiting the Three Lakes Fish and Wildlife Improvement Association fish stocking program, as well as other civic organizations supporting the Three Lakes community.
Registration for the one-day is $300 per boat, with a total payout of $12,000 (based on a full field of 50 boats). Teams can have an application emailed to them. There will be a rules meeting Friday, Aug. 28, at the Big Stone Golf Course pavilion.
