Camp Jorn YMCA closes Fox Island to public use

Posted

Leadership at Camp Jorn YMCA in Manitowish Waters has made the decision to halt public use of its privately-owned Fox Island this season.

According to a statement released on social media, the island is an important part of the camp’s summer programming, used for wilderness exploration, swimming, family camp activities, and special programming for campers.

“In recent years, there has been informal public use of the island when camp activities were not taking place, but due to increasing challenges managing public access during active camp programming, Camp Jorn YMCA has made the decision to close Fox Island to public use effective immediately. The island will now be reserved exclusively for Camp Jorn YMCA activities and authorized guests,” the camp stated. “This decision was not made lightly, but the safety of our campers, staff, and families must always come first.”

Fox Island is located on Rest Lake, part of the Manitowish Waters Chain of Lakes. New signage will be posted prior to the start of the summer season.

Camp Jorn YMCA is located at 13591 Zenner Lane and can be reached by calling 715-543-8808.
