The Republican Party of Vilas County hosted a candidate forum at the Northland Pines High School in Eagle River on May 14.
More than 50 people heard candidates respond as they contended for placement on the Aug. 11 primary ballot when Wisconsin voters will select candidates for the November general election.
The candidates attending the forum for the U.S. Seventh Congressional District included Jessi Ebben, Kevin Hermening and Niina Baum. Ian Farris of WJFW Channel 12 in Rhinelander moderated the forum.
Farris began with questions on immigration. Additional topics were Chinese spies in the U.S., DEI, ESG, and public education.
Solutions were brought up to balance the federal budget, entitlement programs, Social Security and Medicare to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse. Other topics candidates touched on were access to health care in low-density rural population areas, artificial intelligence and energy resources for the U.S., in addition to the current situation with Iran.
For those who were unable to attend the event, Channel 12, WJFW in Rhinelander has a newsclip on its website that readers can view to check out and become acquainted with the candidates.
