Hydrant flushing slated May 20-21

Posted

The Eagle River Light and Water Utility will perform an aggressive flushing of the water system beginning on Wednesday, May 20, for hydrants on the south side of the bridge, and Thursday, May 21, for hydrants on the north side of the bridge. The flushing will begin at 4 a.m. each day.

According to Utility Manager Mike Sanborn, during the flushing, city residents may find the water to be discolored, cloudy, and have a strong smell of chlorine.

“We would like to assure customers the water will be safe to consume at all times, although it is recommended to fill containers for drinking before flushing begins,” he said. “The water department has been working on the most convenient ways to accomplish this with the least interruption to our consumers. This work is done to maintain the high quality of water that we provide to our customers and to ensure the proper operation of the hydrants for fire protection.”

Questions can be directed to Eagle River Light and Water at 715-479-8121 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
