Judy Carlson of Phelps died Friday, Aug. 30, 2024. She was 82.
She was born on January 20, 1942, in Benton, IL to John and Ruby (née Miller) Walker. Her family moved to Phelps shortly afterwards.
She graduated from Phelps High School in 1960.
Mrs. Carlson married Richard D. Carlson Sr. on Sept 29, 1962.
They ran Carlson Construction Company, and both drove bus for the Phelps School District for many years.
She was known for her homemade treats for the students on her bus. She was an avid gardener and canner.
Mrs. Carlson was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack of MD, Edward (Gail) of Florence, WI; one sister, Geri (Robert) Brown of Land O'Lakes; one grandson, Jason Paquet of Rhinelander; and her husband, that passed 27 years prior to the day of her own death.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Donna) Carlson Jr. of Phelps; one daughter, Maxine (Wayne) of Hurley, WI; two grandsons, one granddaughter, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lifelong family friend Ken Kugler and good friend Gayle Bublitz.
A private family service was held per her request.
Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River is serving the family.
