Board looking ahead to find new executive director

After four years of hard work and dedication to the Eagle River community, Karen Margelofsky, executive director of the Eagle River Revitalization Program (ERRP) has submitted her resignation.

Margelofsky has accepted a position as executive director of the Stevens Point Downtown and Portage County Business Park BIDs. Her final day at ERRP will be Sept. 30.

“Margelofsky has led ERRP since 2021, guiding the organization through a period of tremendous growth and community impact,” the ERRP board said in a release.

Under her leadership, ERRP has expanded the Eagle River Farmers Market into one of the area’s most vibrant community gatherings; launched the Impact Grant program, which invests directly into local business growth and development; helped achieve the National Historic District designation for downtown Eagle River; and celebrated recognition as Wisconsin’s 2024 Main Street of the Year.

“These past four years have been some of the most meaningful of my career,” said Margelofsky. “It has been an honor to work alongside the board, our volunteers, city partners, and business owners who are so deeply committed to Eagle River’s future. While I am excited to begin a new chapter, Eagle River will always hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to continuing as a mentor and partner through our shared work as part of Wisconsin’s Main Street programs.”

ERRP Board President Danielle Mazur praised Margelofsky’s leadership and impact.

“Karen’s vision, dedication, and energy have transformed our community. From securing major grants to building lasting partnerships, she has positioned Eagle River for long-term success. While we are sad to see her go, we are grateful for her contributions and excited to continue building on the momentum she has created,” Mazur said.

ERRP Vice President and City Alderman Dan Dumas called Margelofsky “a bridge between the business community and the city, making sure that revitalization is not just about beautification but also about economic growth and opportunity.

“Her work will have lasting effects for years to come,” he said.
Beyond her grant writing and beautification efforts for Eagle River, Margelofsky also had a big impact on local entrepreneurs, fostering a sense of community and togetherness in the downtown area.

“As a new business owner, I’ve seen firsthand how ERRP supports local businesses. Karen’s leadership helped create an environment where small businesses like mine can thrive,” said Andy Lichtfuss, owner of Andy’s Pontoon Saloon and ERRP board member. “That momentum is something we are all committed to carrying forward.”

Now hiring

The ERRP board has opened the search for its next executive director, with applications accepted through Sept. 2. Interviews will take place in mid-September, and Margelofsky will help cross-train the new director to ensure a smooth transition before her Sept. 30 departure.

According to the job posting, “The executive director oversees day-to-day operations, works with the board and committees, and drives economic vitality, promotions, design, and organizational development for downtown Eagle River. Responsibilities include program and event management, fundraising and grant writing, volunteer coordination, and serving as a strong advocate for the community.”

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, community development, or related field, or equivalent business/leadership experience. Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills also are required.

To apply, send a cover letter, resume, and references to Danielle Mazur at dmazur@nicoletbank.com.

“Community members are encouraged to stay engaged with ERRP’s mission during this time of transition,” Mazur said. “The work of revitalization is bigger than one person. Together, we will continue to strengthen Eagle River as a place where businesses thrive and the community gathers.”
