Mikayla Corbett is one of two seniors on the Three Lakes-Phelps cross country teams and the only senior on the girls’ team. Outside of running in the fall, Corbett plays soccer in the spring for the Bluejays. Her hobbies include swimming, bike riding and drawing, among other things. Here is more on the Three Lakes-Phelps cross country senior:
Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“I don’t really have a nickname that my friends on the cross-country team call me, but I did put Corvette on the back of my team shirt because they are fast and my last name is Corbett.”
Do you participate in any other sports besides cross country?
“Outside of cross country, I play soccer. Soccer is one of my favorite sports because it is highly competitive and is a team sport where we have to work together to succeed. I feel like playing soccer really builds character and cooperative skills.”
Do you have a personal goal you have on the course this year?
“A personal goal I have for this year is to graduate high school with four varsity cross country letters and four varsity soccer letters, mainly because I like the feeling of accomplishment, and it will visually remind me that success comes with making goals.”
What other hobbies do you have outside of sports?
“Outside of sports, I like outdoor activities like swimming, riding my bike and playing yard games like capture the flag. I also like drawing, making videos, watching good movies and playing board games like chess. My favorite hobby is riding horses. I love horses so much.”
Favorite vacation spot you’ve been to?
“I would say my favorite vacation spot that I have been to was the beach in Seaside, Oreg. I love the ocean and the wind. I think that spot is extra special because I went there with my family, and it was one of the most memorable vacations that I’ve had.”
Do you have a pre-race ritual that helps you before your meets?
“I like to pray before races because I know that I wouldn’t have the ability to run if it weren’t for God. So I like to thank him for giving me the opportunity.”
Do you have any plans for after high school? College?
“I am still what you would call undecided. I am thinking about going to college for entrepreneurship and business and possibly cinematic arts. I want a career that involves seeing new places and meeting new people. I want a life full of adventures and opportunities.”
