St. Germain weighs $110,000 for new multi-use sports courts

ST. GERMAIN — A proposal to build multi-use pickleball and basketball courts in St. Germain is headed back to the town board after the town’s finance committee confirmed there is enough money to cover the town’s share.

The town is considering allocating $110,000 from its community development fund toward the project, which is expected to cost more than $200,000. The rest would come from private fundraising led by the St. Germain Pickleball Community.

The courts would be built near St. Germain Community Park and would combine a basketball court with three pickleball courts, with lines for both sports, lighting and fencing.

The town board voted down a motion to allocate the money at its Oct. 12 meeting because the request had not yet gone to the finance committee to confirm the funds were available. The board instead voted to send the project to finance, which has since confirmed the community development fund can cover the $110,000.
The proposal will likely return to the town board for a vote at its Nov. 9 meeting.

Jim Bossert, a member of the St. Germain pickleball community who is leading the outside fundraising, said the group has raised about $10,000 so far from individual donors. Organizers need to raise at least $100,000 total for the project to be feasible.

A town commitment would let fundraisers tell potential donors that the town is participating in the project.
“There is a waiting list for the pickleball group to utilize the existing courts,” Bossert said. “People and members are going to surrounding communities with available courts.”

St. Germain currently has only three indoor courts, at the community center, Bossert said. Because the building is also used for voting, events and other activities, residents and visitors can have limited access to the courts. He said an outdoor multi-use court would ease that congestion and keep players in St. Germain.
Donations will go directly to the town of St. Germain into a fund designated for the project and will be tax deductible. The group is currently building a social media presence to raise awareness of the project, once that is live, interested individuals can learn more about how to donate.

If the town board approves the $110,000 allocation on Nov. 9, the group plans a major fundraising push over the winter, Bossert said. If all goes as planned, organizers hope to break ground in the spring.

Golf course breaks records again

The town-owned St. Germain Golf Club is on pace for a second straight record year. Gross revenue for September was up 6.4% compared with September 2025, and October revenue was up 3.8% from the same period last year. Through Oct. 7, the course was up about $49,000 in gross revenue over 2025, which was itself a record.

The course has since closed for the season, and final numbers are expected to be higher, according to Town Supervisor Patrick Niggemeier. Year-end figures were not yet available.

Also during the meeting, town Supervisor Bob Olson reported he will seek bids from fireworks vendors for the town’s Fourth of July celebration.

The board voted to remove Francine Suchocki from the Chief St. Germain Committee and appointed Patrick Niggemeier to replace her.

Patrice Pergolski was appointed to a five-year term on the St. Germain Housing Authority Board.
