Wittenberg woman handed probation on one felony

Maribeth Whitewing, 41, of Wittenberg, was sentenced to three years of probation with conditions at a sentencing hearing on one felony charge of issuing worthless checks (>$2,500). Judge Daniel Overbey stayed a sentence of 18 months of confinement and 24 months of extended supervision for the probation period. The restitution amount of $4,861.91 is to be paid, plus applicable charges. Court costs, also totaling $518, are to be paid to the Clerk of Courts Office within 30 days. She was also sentenced in a separate case for possession of methamphetamine felony, where she was also sentenced to three years of probation that will run concurrently to the first charge.

Shawntae Beson, 30, of Lac du Flambeau, did not appear in court for an adjourned initial appearance last week on one felony charge of possession of narcotic drugs. The court ordered a $500 bench warrant.

Carole Poupart, 29, of Lac du Flambeau, appeared for a voluntary appearance last week on one felony charge of possession of narcotic drugs. A plea/sentencing hearing for the case was scheduled for Aug. 8 at 11 a.m.

Brooke Bennett, 33, of Eagle River, appeared for a status hearing on two felony charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The case is set for a jury trial, which is set to begin Oct. 29 at 8:15 a.m. A final pretrial hearing will take place Sept. 2 at 11:15 a.m. In another case, her bond was modified to retrieve her car from Vilas County and to return to Dane County and the treatment facility she is currently at. The only travel outside of Dane County is to court appearances in Vilas County.
