Eagle River man pleads guilty to child sexual assault

Sentencing set Dec. 2 in Vilas Court

Shawn Briscoe, 38, of Eagle River, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of first-degree child sexual assault-contact w/person under 16 at a plea hearing in Vilas County Circuit Court last week. Judge Daniel Overbey found Briscoe guilty and ordered a presentence investigation ahead of a sentencing hearing that was put on the schedule for Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. Briscoe has been remanded to Vilas Jail, where he has been held since Dec. 2025.

Joseph Poupart, 43, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of fourth-offense OWI at a plea/sentencing hearing last week. Judge Daniel Overbey ordered Poupart to serve four years in the Wisconsin Prison System, with two years of confinement and two years of extended supervision. There is a $1,800 fine plus costs, totaling $3,464. Judge Overbey also ordered three years of license revocation and three years of an IID. There is one day of presentence credit in the case. Poupart also pleaded guilty to three separate felony charges of fifth or sixth OWI, fleeing or eluding an officer and bail jumping. That sentence of two years of confinement and three years of extended supervision will run concurrently with the other sentence.

Amanda Cayo, 42, of Land O’ Lakes, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of misappropriation of ID to obtain money at a plea/sentening hearing. Judge Daniel Overbey stayed a nine-month sentence in Vilas Jail for two months’ probation with conditions. $518.00 in court costs payable within 30 days. There were 77 days of presentence credit in the case.
