Part of FORK on the River paddle event

Posted

WXPR Radio is sponsoring a Poker River Run as part of the second annual Trig’s FORK on the River Charity Paddle on Saturday, June 6.

The charity paddle is to benefit Feed Our Rural Kids (FORK), helping to financially support FORK’s Family Food Helpline, a partnership between FORK and both the Vilas and Oneida County departments of Human Services.

Leadership at WXPR is excited to have a fun way to engage with community members.

“By working hand in hand with FORK, we’re able to help food-insecure families here in the Northwoods,” said WXPR General Manager Jessie Dick. “We’re proud to partner with organizations like FORK that are making a real difference for families across the Northwoods.

All FORK on the River participants are eligible to play, collecting five cards over their two-hour paddle on the Wisconsin River. The best poker hand will win a gift certificate from Eagle Waters Resort in Eagle River.

FORK on the River is presented by Wildwood Outdoor Adventures and Campground in Eagle River and is the perfect chance for a day of family fun, as children under 18 paddle free with a paid parent or guardian.

The event will feature FORK’s post-paddle party, with music from noon until 4 p.m. by both Carolyn Weber and Will Young. There will be refreshments available and Sysco will provide everyone free brats from noon until 2 p.m.
“By working hand in hand with FORK, we are able to help food insecure families here in the Northwoods,” added Dick. “We want everyone to recognize that FORK’s Family Food Helpline is a valuable resource to this entire community, especially individuals and families struggling with economic stability.”

You can register to paddle or make an online donation at feedourruralkids.org/charity-paddle.

Paddle registration is limited to the first 210 paddlers. Individuals can bring their own boat or rent a canoe, kayak or standup paddleboard from Wildwood.

FORK President Perry Pokrandt reminds families in the area that help is just a phone call away, at 888-479-FORK (3675).

Feed Our Rural Kids is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
