$10,000 grant award announced at Women in Business brunch

Posted

Vilas County Economic Development Corp (VCEDC) hosted its fourth annual Women in Business networking and brunch program April 25 at the historic Indian Point Manor in Eagle River.

The event drew more than 60 women who own businesses or are interested in owning a business in Vilas County for a chance to network, enjoy a meal, and spend time at the historic manor.

A surprise occurred during the brunch, when Heidi Reiter-Kramsvogel, market manager for Incredible Bank, surprised VCEDC Executive Director Kathy Schmitz with an announcement that it was the recipient of a $10,000 grant award for the Women in Business program.

“I, along with the room full of 60-plus other women, was beyond stunned, and just so incredibly touched by the kindness and generosity of Incredible Bank,” Schmitz said. “This grant award will truly help make such a positive difference in our program, all to benefit women business leaders in our community.”

In addition to the surprise announcement, Wendy Dulak, owner of Indian Point, welcomed participants as a fellow female business owner. A brunch of quiches, sweets and other items was provided by Laketime Management’s Kelly Cooper, Chef Alejandra Zea and Abigail Wente, and basket drawings were available throughout the morning.

Women in Business

The Women in Business Program is a new initiative designed to fully equip Vilas County women with the support, tools, and connections needed to start and grow successful businesses.

“Women play a critical role in the Northwoods economy, with 55% of businesses in Vilas County owned or co-owned by women,” Schmitz said. “Yet research shows women can face unique barriers to starting and growing a business.”

VCEDC’s Women in Business Program will host a series of webinar and in-person programs throughout 2026, as well as one-on-one small business consulting, a women’s mentorship cohort, and digital business toolkit to help women succeed in many aspects of entrepreneurship.
