Brewers in the middle of another hot streak

Posted

The Milwaukee Brewers are keeping their name in Major League Baseball headlines and for all the right reasons. After going on an 11-game winning streak just a few weeks ago, the team was back on its saddle by winning six straight on the road last week. They went on to sweep the Nationals in the Nation’s capital and won three straight against the Braves. The team finished the weekend with a three-game stint with the Mets, along with a series with the Pirates that started this past Monday, which is not included in this streak.

The team was also 44-16 in the last 60 games after a win Aug. 6, which is the best stretch of 60 games in the franchise’s history. After more research, Milwaukee has also hit 70 wins in just 114 games this season. As of Aug. 7, the Brewers are the only team to reach 70 wins this already this year. The Toronto Blue Jays are the next closest with 68 wins in the American League.

In the National League, the LA Dodgers are the next closest with 66 wins as of Aug. 7.

I saw another stat that mentioned previous notable Brewers teams that made runs in the MLB playoffs. It goes to show how good this team can actually be, which is an amazing thing to digest due to the financial state of a league with no salary cap. It’s truly a David versus Goliath situation, and the Brewers are making a major statement.

Comparing the 2025 team to the 2018 team in the race to 70 wins, it took this year’s squad 114 games compared to the 127 games in 2018. That team won 96 games and made it to the National League Championship Series (NLCS). In 2021, it took the team 119 games and the 2011 team 121 games. The 2021 team ended with 95 victories and a National League Divisional Series (NLDS) appearance, while the 2011 team made the NLCS. All roads point to Milwaukee surpassing these win amounts and making noise once October rolls around.

Another crazy thing to talk about is the team’s road record. It’s not just winning in front of the home crowd. Milwaukee is continuing to shine away from home with a 34-24 record, which is the best in baseball.

The Brew Crew is 14-4 since the all-star break in mid-July and holds a four-game advantage over the Chicago Cubs in the division.

Milwaukee and Chicago will meet for a final time this season in a crucial five-game series at Wrigley Field starting Monday, Aug. 18, and ending Thursday, Aug. 21. There is a doubleheader scheduled Aug. 18. The series will have major implications for how the division unfolds.

With still plenty of games to go, it still seems like a two-man race for the Central title as the Reds and Cardinals sit 10.5 and 13 games back, respectively.

I’m excited to see how the team finishes the season, and it looks like it might be a promising postseason, but I also know how Wisconsin professional sports work. Early heartbreak is always a possibility.
