A new coffee shop in Sugar Camp is offering not only a slew of caffeinated options and handmade desserts, but also a unique take on the typical lattes and macchiatos served on a coffee shop menu.
Guests to the cafe can enjoy their drinks in the company of its two adorable mascots: miniature Highland cows named — you guessed it — Latte and Macchiato — who live behind the patio area in a fenced location.
Highland Cottage Cafe, owned by Amy and Tyler Jakubowski, opened in late August to a warm reception.
“We were absolutely blown away by the turnout and the community’s support,” said Amy. “Every single person who came through our doors was kind, patient, and understanding. It’s been a dream come true to see everyone interact with our cows and enjoy what we’ve worked so hard to create.”
The cafe serves artisan espresso drinks, cocktails — including Bloody Marys, mimosas, and espresso martinis — and four beers on tap from Tribute Brewing Company.
The Jakubowskis said they’re committed to quality, making all pastries and appetizers from scratch with fresh, organic ingredients and no artificial dyes or seed oils. A full brunch menu is expected to launch in October.
“We wanted to create a place that felt like home, where people could relax, enjoy some great food, and just unwind,” said Tyler. “The mini Highlands have been the stars of the show, and we’re so happy they’re bringing so much joy to our visitors. We can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
With its mix of rural charm, house-made fare, and two fluffy friends, Highland Cottage Cafe aims to be more than just a coffee stop — it’s a destination.
Highland Cottage Cafe is located at 6704 Hwy. 17 in Sugar Camp. Hours are Wednesdays through Fridays from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
