A 21-year-old Lac du Flambeau man is set to start his trial this week for a first-degree reckless homicide charge, which stems from the alleged stabbing that took place Aug. 23, 2023, that killed another man near the town of Lac du Flambeau.
Matthew Allen Jr. is set to face a five-day trial, starting Nov. 4 and going potentially through Friday, Nov. 8.
Jennifer Primich, 49, of Phelps, was found guilty at a jury trial last week involving one felony charge of hit and run - involving great bodily harm. After a full day of witness testimony, the jury found Primich guilty. A sentencing hearing is set for Dec. 11, at 2 p.m.
Joseph Poupart, 37, of Lac du Flambeau, did not appear for his preliminary hearing on one felony child neglect charge. His $5,000 signature bond was forfeited in the case, and a body-only warrant was ordered for the nonappearance. The preliminary hearing was rescheduled for Dec. 2, at 3 p.m.
Codi Mayo, 37, of Lac du Flambeau, waived his preliminary hearing on one felony count of possession of narcotics with the intent to deliver. The court entered a not guilty plea and an arraignment hearing was scheduled for Nov. 18, at 2 p.m.
Angela Roberts, 46, of Eagle River, had her cash bond amended during an adjourned initial appearance on one felony count of manufacturing/ delivering amphetamine. The cash bond was adjusted down to $1,000 from $1,500, with conditions to maintain absolute sobriety, not possess or consume intoxicants, not be in a tavern or bar portion of a restaurant, not use illegal drugs and to not take prescription drugs unless prescribed and only as prescribed. An adjourned initial appearance is scheduled for Dec. 2, at 11:30 a.m.
Jesse Armstrong, 26, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded not guilty at his preliminary hearing on one felony charge of first-degree reckless homicide/ delivery of drugs. Detective George Hopfensperger from the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police Department provided testimony for the state during the hearing. A judicial pretrial was set for Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m.
Phillip Peterson, 35, of Lac du Flambeau, appeared for his plea/sentencing hearing last week in three separate cases. Peterson was sentenced to two years of probation with conditions on one felony count of narcotic drug possession. He was also found guilty and sentenced to 90 days in county jail, but there were already 129 days of presentence credit on one felony bail-jumping charge in a separate case. Three other charges were dismissed, but read into the record for sentencing.
Shawntae Beson, 29, of Lac du Flambeau, failed to appear for a judicial pretrial on one felony count of methamphetamine possession. The defense said Beson is in custody in Iron County, and the court ordered a body-only warrant. Another judicial pretrial was set for Nov. 5.
