On Thursday, Nov. 21, starting at 10 a.m., North Woods students, along with other volunteers, will be packing Thanksgiving dinners for families that suffer from food insecurity in the Lakeland School District.
Families from Lakeland Union High School, Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk (MHLT) Elementary School, Arbor Vitae Woodruff (AVW) Elementary School, Lac du Flambeau Elementary School, and North Lakeland Elementary School will be the recipients of the Thanksgiving dinners.
Each family will receive a turkey, along with other items, to complete a Thanksgiving Day meal. The turkeys have been donated by Amazon (who purchased the turkeys from TJ’s Meat Market in Minocqua), Trig’s, Save More, and the Ojibwe Market in Lac du Flambeau. The packing bags are being provided by Walmart of Minocqua.
Johnny Pierre, the WW16 Community Specialist in Weston for Amazon, said, “Making an impact for families is not just a holiday action. It’s an everyday action, and WW16 with Amazon appreciates the North Woods with the opportunity to provide for others.”
Food insecurity for children and adults in the North Woods is ongoing. This effort provides much-needed food for the families impacted during the Thanksgiving holiday.
